Meet Gia, the Designer of Unearthen

We had a chance to stop by Unearthen's booth at (capsule) in NYC and check out the new collection! Unearthen is one of our favorite brands at Line & Label.  We love their unique settings and designer Gia Bahm's juxtaposition of refined and raw materials and design.
A preview of the new Unearthen pieces we tried on at (capsule).
Unearthen sophisticately mixes classic and polished shapes with rough and rugged stones and metals. We love the look of a perfect gold chain with a chunk of garnet or a braided gold ring with a smooth pearl.

We had a chance to interview Gia about her favorite things, scroll through below!

How did you come up with your brand name?

I thought of the name by word association...hours and hours of it! One word kept leading me to the next through thesaurus etc...and then finally the word "Unearthen" popped into my head, and it just felt right! It's funny cuz it's not even a real word.

What inspires you?

Nature mostly, music, perfume and cooking. In that order.

Animal, vegetable, or mineral? And why?

Minerals, of course! And at the moment it would be Opals and Geodes. It's what we used in tons of the AW15 collection.

What is your favorite thing about LA?

I just feel like it's a really happy and healthy place. And there's so many things to explore just outside of the city - head north to Big Sur, south to the beach, east to the desert. There is space for quality time that I personally couldn't find for myself before living here.

What is your favorite type of stone to work with?

Besides opals and Tabasco geodes of the moment, I will always love just plain quartz. It's like the vanilla ice cream of stones. So simple and so perfect. Add stuff to it, or enjoy it on it's own, either way it holds it's own.

What is your favorite kind of jewelry to make?

Rings! I make way too many!

If you had to pick 1 Disney cartoon character to describe yourself, who would it be?

Ha! This is a funny question. I have no idea - but can I be Ariel?
